Hindutva groups and Individuals filed a petition in the court with a claim that the Jama Masjid complex in Budan, Uttar Pradesh, was built over a demolished Hindu deity Shiva temple.

Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, (All-India Hindu Grand Assembly) is one of the main petitioners in this case.

It is the same organization the requested the President of India to impose Ban on Muslim Friday Prayers. The national secretary Puja Shakun Pande said, weekly congregational prayer constitutes a threat to peace in the country.

It is the same organization which is demanding to replace Muslims given name of Delhi to Hindu name Indraprastha.

Surprisingly the court also accepted the petition and issued a notice to the mosque management committee, and Wakf Board, asking them to file a reply by September 15.

Mosque management committee’s lawyer Asrar Ahmed Siddique said they would file a reply on the matter because false claims were being made by the petitioners.

The mosque was built by Iltutmish, the ruler of Delhi Sultanate that time. This mosque reflects Persian and Afghan architecture. The floor is made from white marble. It has a "Hauz"(pond) and three "WuzuKhana"(ablution area) on its premises. Two sides of mosque are occupied by residential blocks: the Jama Masjid Quarters.

This mosque is the third oldest existing and seventh largest mosque of India, after Delhi's Jama Masjid, having a standard capacity of 23,500. The built-up part of the mosque is larger than any other mosque of the country. Before the expansion of Delhi's Jama Masjid, it was the largest and most famous mosque of the country. The central dome of the mosque is considered to be the largest for any dome of mosque in the country.

It is also a Monument of National Importance and a National Heritage Site.

And it is one of the main transit attractions as well.
