27 January 2023: A court in Hindutva administering state, on Friday acquitted 20 people, including the leader of the extremist Hindutva outfit Dhananjay Desai, in the 2014 murder case of a Muslim dayee Mohsin Shaikh.
The Modi government is sending a quiet but strong message to Hindutva followers by acquitting murderers, rioters and convicted criminals, especially repeat offenders.
Pratap Sarangi, the killer of Australian missionary Graham Stain, has been nominated as an MP. Afrazul's assassin, Shabhu Lal Regar, receives an election ticket. Gujarat riot culprits, Maya Kodnani, DG Vanzara including Modi all given clean chit from Indian courts.
The convicted rapists and murderers of Bilkis Bano and his family were also released.
Information technology professional Mohsin (28) spent time on regular dawah activities.
Mohsin was attacked by 20 Hindutva goons and killed on 2nd June 2014 while exiting the Unnati Nagar Masjid after Maghrib salah.
The mob cornered Mohsin and thrashed him with hockey sticks. He was then taken to the hospital by a friend where he was declared dead the same night.
Dhananjay Desai dismissed the allegations of his organization’s involvement in the murder.
Rajya Sabha MP and Congress leader Hussain Dalwai alleged that police officers investigating the Mohsin Shaikh murder case were trying to cover it up, and they should be dismissed.
In 2019 Mohsin’s brother Mubeen Sheikh said he lost hope for justice in a Hindutva ruling state.
As per the request of Mohsin’s family, the state government appointed prominent attorney Ujjwal Nikam as a special public prosecutor in the case. However, Nikam himself left the case in 2017 without providing any justification. Since that time, a local attorney has been handling the matter.
